How do I know if my child is ready for kindergarten?
At Sekani we believe each child is different and their readiness to start school is also at different levels, mostly parents are able to assess if their child is ready to start school. However, some areas that would show a child is ready might include being able to follow simple routines and two-step instructions, separate from caregivers for short periods, manage basic self-care (toileting, zipping, washing hands), and engage with peers; academic milestones (letters, counting) help but are not the only measure.

Parent are requested to share information about their child’s history, therapies, or preferred strategies at enrolment so that the school can plan appropriate support.

At Sekani we believe your child learns more from home through their environment and people around them. Parents can support their child’s development by establishing consistent routines (bedtime, morning), reading together daily, encouraging play with peers, practise independence (dressing, eating), talking positively about school, and maintaining open communication with the teacher so that they share notes on progress.
